Discover authentic Chilean huaso ponchos, handwoven on traditional looms by Unik, a family textile workshop from La Ligua, Chile’s historic weaving town. The huaso poncho is the emblem of the Chilean countryside: a substantial, warm garment worn by the horsemen of central Chile for generations, and today a proud symbol of national identity.
Woven on the Loom, Made to Last
Our ponchos are woven by hand with three, four or five strands of sheep’s wool, most of them blended with a percentage of alpaca fiber. The result is a thick, warm and resilient textile that keeps its shape for years, and in many designs the dense weave gives the fabric a natural resistance to light rain and damp. Classic huaso ponchos measure about 1.80 m in total, falling roughly 90 cm from the shoulders.
Tradition in Every Design
Choose from solid classics in vicuña, grey and burgundy, striped peinecillo and campo campo designs, Mapuche-inspired patterns, and enguinchado ponchos finished with braided trim. Many styles include a practical hood and a toggle closure at the neckline. Lighter versions woven with fewer strands or softer yarns are ideal for mild days and everyday wear.
Explore our Chilean ponchos and find a piece of living tradition, made to be worn for years and passed down through generations.
