Two strands of large baroque Chinese freshwater pearls and black onyx beads make this baroque pearl necklace a dramatic statement. The pearls are graduated in size, the largest measuring 32 mm. Wear it with a black turtleneck for gallery-opening chic, or over a white linen shirt on a summer evening.
Freshwater pearls grow in mussels in lakes and rivers, and baroque pearls are the free-form ones, each with its own curves and luster. Black onyx, polished to a deep gloss, sets them off perfectly. The necklace comes from Lapis Lazuli World, a family-owned Chilean jeweller with more than five decades of handcraft. Although the workshop is famous for lapis lazuli, it occasionally works with other gemstones and pearls to create distinctive pieces like this one.
Put pearls on last and take them off first. Keep the necklace in a soft pouch, remove it before swimming or applying perfume, and wipe it gently with a soft cloth after wearing.
